We learn about our own culture by learning about other cultures. We answer the question, “What does it mean to be human?”

Learn about one culture in depth from many different perspectives, angles.

KNOWLEDGE:

Cultural geography: general knowledge about multiple cultures.

Differences within culture and among cultures caused by race, class, religion--and they change…

Cultural universals…

Culture and communication are closely connected, and students must know verbal and non-verbal languages.

Past history illuminates the present.

SKILLS:

Evaluate current events and trends in a culture. Events have meaning in context of trend and history. Analyze how connected to our lives.

Compare and contrast points of view without necessarily agreeing or disagreeing.

State the true experience of an individual from another culture in a way that would satisfy a person of that culture.

PARTICIPATION:

Listen to people of other cultures or views of other cultures with tolerance.

Seek to communicate with people from other cultures. Students will meet and learn from people of other cultures.

Universal human rights? Basic human rights? Students should appreciate them….
